3D Embroidery Puff Foam is placed beneath embroidery stitches to create raised lettering, logos, and dimensional design elements. As the machine stitches over the foam, the dense embroidery compresses and encloses it, producing the bold, elevated appearance commonly called 3D puff embroidery.

Designed for 3D Puff Embroidery
Successful puff embroidery requires artwork digitized specifically for foam. Satin columns, stitch direction, density, underlay, and edge-closing stitches must work together to cover the foam and create clean edges.
Standard flat-embroidery files may not produce acceptable 3D results.

How to Use
Place the puff foam over the hooped embroidery area and secure it so it remains flat during stitching. Run a design digitized specifically for 3D foam using the appropriate needle, thread, backing, and machine settings.
After stitching, carefully tear away the excess foam. Remove small remaining pieces without damaging the thread or garment. Gentle heat may help shrink minor foam remnants when permitted by the foam, thread, and garment manufacturers.
Important Production Notes
Choose a foam color close to the embroidery thread to make small openings or remnants less visible. Foam thickness, needle size, stitch density, and digitizing settings all affect the finished result.
Always test the complete design on the intended garment before beginning production.
